PostSubject: LUX-related B747s   Fri May 02, 2014 4:53 pm

Recently there were claims about low forum's activity. To come over this, I dived into my archives searching some pics of LUX-related B747s for a compilation we hadn't here so far. Of course, this collection is still very incomplete, but maybe we can fill the gaps together with the time?

To start with a B747-200F in Cargolux' first basic bare metal B747 livery, being diverted to CGN one day in 1984 due to bad weather at LUX:

Followed by this nowadays more common B747-400F in the newer and revised basic grey livery, climbing out of LUX in 2008:

More exciting might be this B747-400F of Air Atlanta, operating for some time on behalf of Cargolux in 2007:

After a short leasing period, Luxair returned this B747SP to South African Airways in 1981, seen here approaching FRA's northern runway in the early morning sun, still showing basic Luxair livery:

This China Cargo Airlines B747-400F is departing from LUX in 2008, heading east:

Regular visitor to LUX is China Airlines Cargo with B747-400F, seen here in 2007 (note also regular ACR AN-26 left behind in the background):

In those days in 2002, CAL's B747s were still painted in more colours than just white, leaving a lot of rubber exactly at the runway's threshold:

A LUX-departing B747-200F of Tradewinds Cargo is still showing basic Atlas Air Livery in 2007:

Jett8 Airlines' B747-200F were regular vistors in 2007:

For many years, MK Airlines' B747-200F could frequently be seen at LUX, as here in 2007 departing eastbound:

MK's one and only silver machine approaching from the other direction in the evening:

The year 2007 also presented this MK B747 still in basic Polar Air Cargo livery:

Air Bridge Cargo B747-200Fs were as well a common sight at LUX, not only in that year:

In 2008, Yangtze River Express began scheduled services to LUX, using B747-400F:

Further additions would be highly appreciated...

Well, Donaldson, as you requested, here are some more LUX-related 747s

Ill-fated 9G-MKJ coming in to land at LUX in July 2004. The plane crashed at Halifax during take-off in October 2004.

The second use of LX-ACV, with the open nose-door conveniently open. Ex N741TV of Transamerica , later with Cargo Air Lines 4X-ICL.

LX-BCV still in basic Saudia colours. Also coming from Transamerica (N743TV), here seen still in basic SAUDIA colours

LX-KCV in Carribbean colours. Delivered to American as N9663, it ended with United Airlines.

LX-LGX was used for the long-haul route to JNB. Delivered to SAA as ZS-SPB.

LX-NCV in basic AVIANCA colours was leased to IRAN Air for the 1987 hadj season. Delivered to America, it finished its life with United Airlines.

And finally , ex British Airways 747 LX-ZCV in July 1992. This one was delivered to ALIA , later to BCAL as G-HUGE and converted to a freighter in1991.

Good stuff, diddi, thank you - I knew I could count on you  cheers

Just found two other LX-registered B747s, operating pax charters for Lionair in 1988 and taken at CGN, first one with Caribbean titles:

The other one had Orionair titles, otherwise looking very much the same:

There are definitely some more - I remember at least a stored private B747SP and an ex-Air National B747 I took a few years ago at LUX, but presently can't find the slides...  Embarassed

Well, finding the slides seems to be everyone`s problem...

I found some more:

LX-DCV shortly after delivery

Long term resident LX-MCV

That`s the 747SP Donaldson was mentioning, I think. Broken up at LUX later

And finally, LX-GCV at ORY in May 1988

Is there really nobody to fill the gaps?

Here comes LX-LCV in May 1987 at FRA showing BWIA titles

Whilst a year earlier, she sported IRAN AIR tiles FRA, (July 1986)

Then there were a few charters to FRAdone by short-lived Air National, which was later parked at LUX with overpainted titles

LX-ECV before touch-down at LUX with some work going on in the background for the new cargo building

And finally 4X-AXF showing "Cargo" titles only

That`s all , Folks. Nobody for trhe "Big Boss" 747???

Well I certainly can't compete with your treasures. This is the oldest one I've found. Everything else is the same old we have nowadays.

Here are some more of LUX`s 747s:

Cargo Airlines 4X-ICM im July2001. This is ex LX-ECV.

The same one, this time fully painted in July 2002

And again , in July 2003

The colours were completely gone in October 2005

Sistership 4X-ICL with fading fuselage colours in August 2003. Ex LX-ACV.

No way to hide its ancestry for MK Airlines` 9G-MKS June 2005

Unfortunately, The Big Boss preferred to show his back-side only

Air Atlanta`s TF-ATN in July 2002 with faintly visible Nigeria Airways titles (July 2002)

TF-ARV in June 2005 on a well-filled Cargolux apron

Just having received the new titles TF-ARP in June 2005. Formerly LH`s D-ABZB and Thesis`VP-BXD

TF-ARJ in the older colours an "Operating for Cargolux" sticker in October 2005

TF-ARH with windows in full new colours in July 2005. This once flew with Lufthansa as D-ABYW.

And an anonymous EL-AL 4X-AXK in June 2005

Finally, a series -300 from Air Atlanta also in June 2005

I think, that`s all from me and the LUX-related 747s!

Keep on posting! Unfortunately I was born too late to contribute with retro pics!
Diddi - the Air National 747 at FRA is LX-GAL and not SAL Wink
Ialso saw an Alitalia behind the Air Atlanta with Nigeria titles - a common visitor?

Should have been no common visitor but a maintenance visitor at Cargolux.

Thanks for the valuable additions - they make quite an impressive picture collection. Some liveries like Corsair etc. are still missing though. Who can help?

Here are six more:

VP-BIA on  what was on one of her first visits to LUX. She was said to leave on this day to the Far East, so we hoped for a long take-off run. Instead she was doing an empty ferry-flight to OST
leaving us with this result:

The AZ 747F in front of the CV maintenance hangars must have been N409MC, here at FRA:

An overview on a very wet day in July, 1987

And very much LUX related was Focus Air with ist two 747Fs, here the series -300

M499MC in July 2003

And finally, the Panalpina 747 N492MC in July 2002:
